HIV/AIDS programs

THAT is implementing HIV/AIDS programs in Ilemela and Nyamagana districts in collaboration with Mwanza region and District Health Management teams with a focus in decentralization of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment services from hospital to primary health facilities level and increase access to quality HIV services near client’s homes. The organization has initiated and sustains services through 7 rural and suburban primary health facilities and community outreach campaigns. 

            The program is funded by Aids relief.

Health campaigns

In ensuring equitable access of quality health services, THAT and Afya Radio spearheaded two major preventive screening events in Mwanza in collaboration with Bugando Medical Centre, Mwananchi Hospital, Seiko tore regional Hospital, Nyamagana hospital  whereby 680 citizens were tested on non-communicable diseases i.e. breast cancer, diabetes, blood pressure, eyes sight and BMI .

 

Behavior change communication program

Behavior change communication program, the organization is implementing a malaria project in six districts of Mwanza region. Through 134 trained Community Change agents, 223,215 people (107,696 men and 115,519 women) have been reached with malaria education (prevention, signs, and early and right treatments information)

Moreover the project is also implementing a WASH project whereby more than 1 million people have been educated on Maternal, neonatal and Child health Care services specifically on diarrhea prevention and right treatment, regular attendance to clinics for pregnant women and under five children, delivery by health personnel and general care for pregnant women new born babies.

Behavior Change communication (Media) & Social accountability

The organization through Afya Radio has been able to facilitate community journalism initiative whereby, different educative health related programs are produced and broadcasted in week days. Issues of concern have been maternal and child health, domestic violence, reproductive health and disability. Currently, through this program, the organization has facilitated formation of eight (8) radio listening clubs lead by Community Change agents- CCAs whereby, more than 5000 people have been reached physically and more than 400,000 reached through on air programs.
